John married Ruby Alice Etheridge in 1912. Ruby was born at Barraba 16 Oct, 1893 and they had eight children;

• John Edward: born 1 Jan, 1913;

• Arthur Thomas: 9 Apr, 1914;

• Doris Miriam: 21 Nov, 1915;

• William George: 21 Feb, 1917;

• Elsie: 2 Jun, 1918;

• Richard: 25 Jun, 1919, all born at Warialda;

• Florence Ruby: 8 Feb, 1933

• Jack: 2 May, 1935, both at Newcastle.
