THE BURLING FAMILY HISTORY

Third child of AARON and ETHEL.

Robert married Joyce Blakeway 19 Jul, 1940 at Manly, N.S.W.. Joyce, the daughter of William and Maude Blakeway (nee McWilliams), was born at West Maitland, 19 May, 1916. They have one son,

• James Robert: born 17 Oct, 1947 at Armidale.

He worked for a few years with his father in his carrying business, attended Sydney Teacher's College 1936/37 and started his teaching career at Narrabri, where he stayed only 3 months. He was then transfered to Angledool in the far north west of N.S.W. In 1941 he joined the R.A.A.F.and was there till the end of hostilities. He served with Coastal Command as a pilot in North Africa, the Mediterranean area and Italy; was hospitalised in 1945 with war injuries. On discharge he went back to teaching at Kelly's Plains near Armidale for 26 years and retired to Goulburn in 1973 and, to use his own words, he is living a life of leisure and enjoying every minute of it. He has now moved to Wagga Wagga.
