THE BURLING FAMILY HISTORY

DESMOND EDWARD BURLING

Index of the Children

First child of EDWARD and IVY.

Des married Jill, third daughter of Raymond and Doris Francetta St. John George at Moree 14 Oct, 1947. Jill was born at Moree 23 Apr, 1928 and they had three sons, all born in Moree:

One of Des' earliest memories of his Grandfather, George, was the fact that every few weeks George, living at Wilga, used to travel the 10 miles to Woodcourt with the horse and sulky to collect a load of wood and he always arrived with a penny packet of Nestle's round chocolates for Des.

Des and Jill still reside at "Woodcourt" although they have bought another property in the Rocky Creek area, Bingara. In his younger days, Des, like his father, was a very keen horseman and followed the shows for some years, competing as a rodeo rider and a good one at it. He was also a very good footballer, representing Moree for a number of years, noted for his speed on the wing and his excellent defensive game, being a very hard tackler. He also followed his father's love of the racing game, and competed for many years as an amateur jockey, following the Picnic Race Circuit.
